About

How many points? — Combien de points? in the original French — was born on a Flip 7 evening where nobody agreed on the score. The counter was first a tool for our own table; the scoring rules, the score sheets, the guides and the other games came afterwards, game after game.

Our table, on a Skull King night.

Who makes this site

The site and the app are designed, developed and written in Marseille, France, by Reel In, an independent studio that builds websites, apps and video for companies in the region. How many points? is our personal project: we have played Belote and Contrée since childhood, Skull King and Skyjo since they came out, and we got tired of redoing the sums on the corner of a tablecloth.

There is no outsourced writing and no mass-generated content: every page is written by the people who built the counter, and every rule is played before it is published. When a convention varies from one table to the next — rounding in Belote, the 81–81 tie, the Barbu scoring table, Rascal scoring in Skull King — the page says so and the counter lets you choose rather than imposing one version. The English pages are translated and adapted by us too: where a game is sold under another name or with a slightly different scoring table in English-speaking countries, the page says which.

How the rules are checked

  1. The publisher’s rulebook, when there is one (Skyjo, Skull King, Flip 7, 6 nimmt!, Papayoo), is the reference; the page cites it and flags where common practice departs from it.
  2. For traditional games with no publisher (Belote, Contrée, Yahtzee, Hearts, Barbu), we compare the rules of the French Belote federation and the main rules books with the way the tables we sit at actually play, in France and elsewhere in Europe.
  3. Every scoring table is tested in the counter on real games before publication: the sum checks (162 in Belote, 26 in Hearts, 250 in Papayoo, 271 for a Barbu salad) come from there.
  4. The figures in the guides — Yahtzee probabilities, the average value of a Skyjo card, the spread of bullheads in 6 nimmt! — are computed by us and can be reproduced; each guide gives the method.

What we don’t do

No user accounts, no collection of game data: games stay on your phone. The site is funded by discreet advertising on content pages, never inside the app. We are not affiliated with any publisher; game names are used to describe the rules and belong to their owners.

Suggest a game, report an error

Write to contact@combiendepoints.fr. A reported error is corrected on the page and in the counter, with the update date. The most requested games are added first; see the list of upcoming games.
