A game of Belote at our table.

How to fill in the sheet

One line per deal. In the “Trump / taker” column, write the trump suit and an A or a B for the team that took; under “Lead”, the team that played the first card. After the last trick, each team counts its cards (in trumps: jack 20, nine 14, ace 11, ten 10, king 4, queen 3; elsewhere: ace 11, ten 10, king 4, queen 3, jack 2) and adds 10 for the last trick. Write both scores: together they must make 162, 182 if a belote was declared, 252 on a capot (all tricks). If the takers did not make more than 81, they are “dedans” (inside): the defence scores 162, the takers 0 (they keep their belote).

The last two columns hold the running totals. The game is won by the first team to reach 1,000 points, or whatever target you set.

3Diamonds · A0 (inside)162259247
4Clubs · B0252 (capot)259499

In deal 2, team B took and only made 70: they are inside, team A scores 162; but the belote they declared stays theirs. In deal 4, B takes every trick: capot, 252 points.

Conventions to agree before playing

Belote varies from one table to the next: game to 501, 1,000 or 2,000; scores rounded to the nearest ten or not; the 81–81 tie kept in reserve or lost; capot worth 250 or 252. Write your choices at the top of the sheet before the first deal; it is the only way to avoid the argument on the last one.
