How to fill in the sheet
One line per round, in penalty points. After the thirteenth trick, each player counts the hearts they took (1 point each) and adds 13 if they have the queen of spades. The line must add up to 26: 13 hearts and one queen. If a player took everything — the 13 hearts and the queen — they shot the moon: they score 0 and each of the others takes 26; the line then adds up to 78 with four players.
Write the running total small under each score. The game ends at the end of the round in which a player reaches 100; the lowest total wins. If you play the jack of diamonds variant (−10 for whoever takes it), write it at the top of the sheet: the line then adds up to 16.
Sample game
| Round | Emma | Nico | Pat | Lea | Check |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 3 | 18 (5 hearts + queen) | 5 | 0 | 26 |
| 2 | 0 (shot the moon) | 26 | 26 | 26 | 78 |
| 3 | 13 (queen) | 4 | 2 | 7 | 26 |
| Total | 16 | 48 | 33 | 33 |
The check column isn’t on the printed sheet, but add each line up in your head: 26 or 78, nothing else. It is the fastest way to spot a heart forgotten in a trick.
Mistakes to avoid on paper
- Giving 26 to the player who shot the moon instead of 0: it is the other way round.
- Missing a heart: the line no longer makes 26. Recount the tricks before gathering the cards.
- Ending the game as soon as someone touches 100 mid-round: finish the round.
- Confusing the target with the winner: whoever reaches 100 triggers the end, but the lowest score wins.
